We, as Americans, cannot comprehend this idea, as we are always look to the future and progress as a blessing for us and our children. Our faith promotes tolerance and love for our fellow man, so we wonder how a religion can turn people into such unforgiving terrorists. The Islamic faith, which grew from a military basis, is unable to separate the religious aspects from the ruling body, leaving its religious tenants and civil laws open to individual interpretation and an intolerance for other religious beliefs. Because the history of the Islamic faith was built on the unification of the tribes of Arabia they became a powerful force. â€Å" Islam from its inception, is a political as well as a religious movement, and the themes of religion, politics and law are inseparable in the Qur’an and in Islam as a whole.† (Richard Connery, William Dudley) The Muslim military is the rock and foundation on which the Islamic and Muslim faith is built on.

Financial statements that are simple and comparable to the general public may not be in the best interest of the managers. Managers like to manipulate ?nancial reports to suit their own interests. Financial reporting would be easy to just report whatever is in the cash till. Despite the fact that financial reporting would be simplistic, it is better to have complex account than a simple financial reporting. There is no perfect standard for any corporations in the world. An ever changing corporate world makes it harder to ascertain for the prefect standard.However, experimentation with alternatives in a competitive regulatory environment generates data to help identify with the most wanted accounting standards. No single set of standards has been shown to be the best suited for all ?rms. The argument for regulatory monopoly in accounting is often based on the assumption that in the absence of such regulation, there will be no standards. Financial reporting standards act as a template to prevent managers from taking advantage of the shareholders cost of capital and fraudulent behaviour or thoughts.Despite being a set of rules, the financial reporting standards still has its leeway from country to country. With a centrally planned accounting standards, standards setters are susceptible to lobbying pressure especially when disagreement arises between varies interest party. On the contrary, with regulatory competition, standards setters can avoid the lobbying pressure. This is because those who do not like the standard can freely choose another one that is suitable. Analysis For the first claim above, I agree that a simple financial report is favourable to the public but not so to the managers.However, this may not always hold true as it may paint a biased picture favourable towards the managers. This is mainly attributed to the manipulations of the financial report for their own interest. In addition, a financial reporting that only reports the cash in the till wou ld eliminate all the complexity of financial reporting. However, I feel that a complex financial report that depicts the true situation of a company is better than a simple financial statement that just only accounts for whatever is in the till.Having guidelines may be easier for financial reporting but it may leave out certain â€Å"hard to count† assets and liabilities which are crucial in preparing an impartial financial report for the public. Therefore, I agree with the author that a complex financial report that may arise from regulatory competition is better and more precise compared to a guided and simple financial report. Secondly, my apprehension with the experimentations of alternatives is that in reality, corporation may not have the time or resources to try out different alternatives.A failed experimentation with an alternative accounting standard may negatively affect the capital that will be invested in the company by investors. However, I do agree with the auth or that experimentation with different standards through regulatory competition will eventually lead to the perfect accounting standard for every corporation. This is due to the ever changing rules selected in accounting standards through regulatory competition. 3 No single standard setter knows the perfect standards for different industries and circumstances.Hence, I believe that in order to have the perfect standards it is for the best to leave it to the market. Like I have mentioned above, accounting rules are always carefully chosen according to different regulatory competition. Just like the laissez faire concept. Hence, with regulatory competition, the market will decide which standards are the best by allowing corporations to experiment with alternatives. Subsequently, the main argument favouring the harmonisation of accounting tandards is the fear of having no standard with competitive regulations. However, better firms can engage the best quality of audit as an attempt to c onvey their quality over to investors. 2 Firms can convey such message by paying a price premium charged by audit ?rms, which are perceived to provide services of higher quality. This further proves that even without regulations there will still be standards; in fact the reports prepared will be better quality as better audit firms are employed.The up side of using accounting standards set by standard setters is that it is prescriptive. I agree with the writer that in this case, by having prescriptive standards are actually positive as it restricts managers from exploiting the cost of capital belonging to the shareholders. In addition, not all standards that are prescriptive lack flexibility which will hinder professional judgement. An example would be the flexibility between UK GAAP, US GAAP as well as International GAAP despite all coming under the same accounting standards.Finally, I disagree with the author to a certain extend that it will lessen the lobbying pressure. I believe that having regulatory competition may provide for more lobbying opportunities as pressure to conform to authorities who are usually the big corporations or political government are futile to resist. 4 Nevertheless, I agree with the author that regulatory competition will not eliminate lobbying pressure but lessen it. With regulatory competition, accounting standards are diversified hence reducing its vulnerability to lobbyist.Critical appreciation Throughout the whole paper, the author has a strong stand on the differentiation of accounting standards by putting more weight on discussing on the advantages of regulatory competition that arises from differentiated accounting standards. Even though there are discussions on the advantages of having standards towards the end of the paper, there is not much emphasis. However, I agree with the author that his arguments for regulatory competition are not for the elimination of accounting standards.I strongly believe in the Pareto efficient solution for setting accounting standards; for every accounting standards set it will not benefit everyone but as long as it benefits the majority it will be a considerably good standard. Overall, I love this article as it opens up my mind regarding the benefits we can get by adopting regulatory competition by having different accounting standards at the same time emphasised about the consequences of just having regulatory competition.

Air Force One, Boeing 737 Free Online Research Papers Development began in 1979 for the 737s first major facelift. Boeing wanted to increase capacity and range, incorporating improvements to upgrade the aircraft to modern specifications, while also retaining commonality with previous 737 variants. In 1980 preliminary aircraft specifications of the variant, dubbed 737-300, were released at the Farnborough air show. The CFM56-3B-1 turbofan engine was chosen to power the aircraft, which yielded significant gains in fuel economy and a reduction in noise, but also posed an engineering challenge given the low ground clearance of the 737 and the larger diameter of the engine over the original Pratt and Whitney engines. Boeing and engine supplier CMFI solved the problem by placing the engine ahead of the wing, and by moving engine accessories to the sides of the engine pod, giving the engine a distinctive non-circular air intake. The passenger capacity of the aircraft was increased to 149 by extending the fuselage around the wing by 2.87 meters. The wing incorporated a number of changes for improved aerodynamics. The wing tip was extended 23 cm and the wing span by 53 cm. The leading-edge slats and trailing-edge flaps were adjusted. The flight deck was improved with the optional EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrumentation System), and the passenger cabin incorporated improvements similar to those developed on the Boeing 757. The prototype -300, the 1,001st 737 built, first flew on 24 February 1984 with pilot Jim McRoberts. It and two production aircraft flew a nine month long certification program. In June 1986 Boeing announced the development of the 737-400, which stretched the fuselage a further 3.0 m, increasing the passenger load to 170. The -400s first flight was on February 19, 1988 and, after a seven-month/500-hour flight testing run, entered service with Piedmont Airlines that October. The -500 series was offered, due to customer demand, as a modern and direct replacement of the 737-200. It incorporated the improvements of the 737 Classic series; allowing longer routes with fewer passengers to be more economical than with the 737-300. The fuselage length of the -500 is 1 ft 7 in (48 cm) longer than the 737-200, accommodating up to 132 passengers. Both glass and older style mechanical cockpits arrangements were available. Using the CFM56-3 engine also gave a 25% increase in fuel efficiency over the older -200s PW engines. The 737-500 was launched in 1987 by Southwest Airlines, with an order for 20 aircraft, and flew for the first time on June 30, 1989. A single prototype flew 375 hours for the certification process, and on February 28, 1990, Southwest Airlines received the first delivery. The 737-500 has become a favorite of some Russian airlines, with Aeroflot-Nord (now Nordavia), S7 Airlines, and Rossiya Airlines all buying second-hand models of the aircraft to replace aging Soviet-built aircraft. After the introduction of the -600/700/800/900 series, the -300/400/500 series was called the 737 Classic series. The price of jet fuel has skyrocketed in the past five years; airlines devote 40% of the retail price of an air ticket to pay for fuel in 2008, versus 15% in 2000. Consequently, carriers have begun to retire the Classic 737 series to reduce their fleet sizes; replacements consist of more efficient Next Generation 737s or Airbus A320/A319/A318 series aircraft. On June 4, 2008, United Airlines announced it would retire all 94 of its Classic 737 aircraft (64 737-300 and 30 737-500 aircraft), replacing them with Airbus A320 jets taken from its Ted subsidiary, which has been shut down. Prompted by the modern Airbus A320, Boeing initiated development of an updated series of aircraft in 1991. After working with potential customers, the 737 Next Generation (NG) program was announced on November 17, 1993. The 737NG encompasses the -600, -700, -800 and -900, and is to date the most significant upgrade of the airframe. The performance of the 737NG is essentially that of a new aircraft, but important commonality is retained from previous 737 models. The wing was modified, increasing its area by 25% and span by 4.9 m which increased the total fuel capacity by 30%. New, quieter, more fuel-efficient CFM56-7B engines were used. All three improvements combined increase the 737s range by 900 NM, now permitting transcontinental service. A flight test program was operated by 10 aircraft; 3 -600s, 4 -700s, and 3 -800s. The first NG to roll out was a -700, on December 8, 1996. This aircraft, the 2,843rd 737 built, first flew on February 9, 1997. The prototype -800 rolled out on June 30, 1997 and first flew on July 31, 1997. The smallest of the new variants, the -600s, is the same size as the -500. It was the last in this series to launch, in December 1997. First flying January 22, 1998, it was given certification on August 18, 1998. In 2004, Boeing offered a Short Field Performance package in response to the needs of Gol Transportes AÃ ©reos, which frequently operates from restricted airports. The enhancements improve takeoff and landing performance. The optional package is available for the 737NG models and standard equipment for the 737-900ER. Boeing has already hinted that a clean sheet replacement for the 737 (internally dubbed Boeing Y1) could follow the Boeing 787. Engines on the 737 Classic series (300, 400, 500) and Next-Generation series (600, 700, 800, 900) appear not to have circular inlets, as most aircraft do. The accessory gearbox was moved from the 6 oclock position under the engine to the 4 oclock position (forward looking aft). This was done because the 737 sits lower to the ground than most airliners and the original 737s were designed for small PW engines, but additional ground clearance was needed for the larger CFM56 engines. This side-mounted gearbox gives the engine a somewhat triangular rounded shape. Because the engine is close to the ground, 737-300s and later are more prone to engine foreign-object damage (FOD). 737s are not equipped with fuel dump systems. Depending upon the nature of the emergency, 737s either circle to burn off fuel or land overweight. To save weight and reduce cost and complexity the 737 lacks full doors to cover the main landing gear. The main landing gear (under the wings at mid-cabin) rotate into wells in the aircrafts belly, the legs being covered by partial doors, and brush-like seals aerodynamically smooth (or fair) the wheels in the wells. The sides of the tires are exposed to the air in flight. Hub caps complete the aerodynamic profile of the wheels. It is forbidden to operate without the caps, because they are linked to the ground speed sensor that interfaces with the anti-skid brake system. When observing a 737 takeoff, or at low altitude, the dark circles of the tires can be plainly seen. The primary flight controls are intrinsically safe. In the event of total hydraulic system failure or double engine failure, they will automatically and seamlessly revert to control via servo tab. The 737 is the only modern passenger aircraft this size or larger that can operate completely without hydraulics Most 737 cockpits are equipped with eyebrow windows positioned above the main glareshield. Eyebrow windows were a feature of the original 707. They allowed for greater visibility in turns, and offered better sky views if navigating by stars. With modern avionics, they became redundant, and many pilots actually placed newspapers or other objects in them to block out sun glare. They were eliminated from the 737 cockpit design in 2004, although they are still installed in military variants and at customer request. These windows are sometimes removed and plugged, usually during maintenance overhauls and can be distinguished by a metal plug which differs from smooth metal which appears in later aircraft that were not originally fitted with the windows. Blended winglets are available as retrofits and in production on newer 737 aircraft. These winglets stand approximately 2.4 m tall and are installed at the wing tips. They help with reduced fuel burn (by reducing vortex drag), reduced engine wear, and less noise on takeoff. A short-field design package is available for the 737-600, -700 and -800, allowing operators to fly increased payload to and from airports with runways under 1,500 m. The package consists of sealed leading edge slats (improved lift), a two-position tail skid (enabling reduced approach speeds) and increased flight spoiler deflection on the ground. These improvements are standard on the 737-900ER. The 737 models can be divided into three generations, including nine major variants. Since we all appear the same, act accordingly, and appear normal we are treated and accepted as equal individuals(I would not use the word appear twice, it becomes clichà © in that sentence). However, individuals who are diagnosed with a disease or undergoing forms of treatment are judgmentally perceived(That is an over generalization). Individuals who appear different, are among the fastest growing rates for childhood illnesses and deaths(Rewrite sentence for clarity). Through nonprofit organizations, such as, Ronald McDonald House Charities, selfless individuals whom desire to seek and serve the less fortunate are given the opportunity to provide an atmosphere of normalcy for its patients and guests who are dealing with an illness or disability. The combined efforts of countless individuals have changed the lives of children all across the world. Statistics published in numerous medical journals have revealed the devastating impact in regards to childhood illnesses. Across the nation, cancer has been confirmed the number one cause for a disease related death among children (Rodgers 69). In 2007, approximately 10,400 children under the age of fifteen were diagnosed with cancer (National Cancer Institute) These are children that will never even see their own high school graduation. Oncologists have taken previous estimates to calculate the approximate number of children in 2009 that will be diagnosed cancer,theoretically speaking that number will be approximately 3,500 children(You formed this sentence describing a simple projection, in a very convoluted way). Assuming that these projected numbers will continue unchanged for years to come, less and less children will able to experience what most assume to be an ordinary future. Young people should live knowing that they have their whole lives ahead of them, but rather, a child diagnosed with cancer must cope with the agony and apprehension of death that the disease proposes, if effect sabotaging lifes course of action. In addition to cancer related diseases that are overpowering children in society, Cerebral Palsy also plays a significant role. Cerebral Palsy takes shape in nearly 10,000 babies per year in the United States. This ratio can seem minimal, considering how many children are in the United States, however this can come to represent that every two in three children per 1,000 will develop the disease(two in three per 1000 huh? That makes no sense, need to fix). Children that live healthy lives are costly, considering that they require endless essentials such as, food, clothing, and school supplies, and other miscellaneous items. Imagining the expenditure for a child with a disability and to accommodate their needs is almost unreal. Accommodating for a child with Cerebral Palsy can lead to a lifetime cost of near million dollars. In these harsh economical times, parents can be hindered from providing their children the nessecities of a decent life. Parents and children alike need an enviro nment where they can live happily, and healthily. Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake can reduce the costs associated with a disability, and provide one life changing week for a child. With a payment of two hundred dollars per child, one can participate in five program areas consisting of: arts and crafts, outdoor education, sports, waterfront, and drama which enable campers to do things that may not be possible to accomplish on an everyday basis (Flaig, Vicky 1). In addition to the recreational activities, meals and housing (cabins) are also included. Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake also provides assiduousness(Try to find alternate word) and compassion for many other disabilities. Among the eight weeks that the camp is staffed it serves different age groups and a variety of disabilities. During four of the eight weeks the camp provides for individuals with Downs syndrome. One story in particular tells of a father who was an advent runner whose daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately his daughter was taken by the disease while she and her family were staying in the Ronald McDonald House. Her father ran over two thousand miles, from Main to Florida, to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald House (Ronald McDonald House Charities). Although, his daughter eventually lost the battle with cancer, he was greatly impacted by the fact that the Ronald McDonald House would essentially give him a home to live in and be near his daughter during her last days. People have described the Ronald McDonald House as A home away from home. The Ronald McDonald House does not require a payment but asks for a five dollar donation a day. A person who stays at the house receives a room, meals, activities, and laundry services for as long as they may need to stay at the house. Tommy is not the only individual who has been impacted by the charity. Other individuals such as Joseph Krupski have had remarkable experiences at the camp too. Joseph was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia which required him to have multiple bone marrow transplants. As a young boy, Joseph was terrified by the road that was ahead of him. Jerry an on site the golden labradoodle (Labrador and poodle mix) that was stationed at the house where Joseph stayed. Jerrys wagging tail and congenial facial expressions always seemed to calm Joseph and uplift his spirits before undergoing both of his bone marrow transplants. These are not the only stories that are being told about the impact that Ronald McDonald House Charities has had on people and their families, but these are stories that will become legacies because they will never be forgotten. They will continue to be an inspiration for those seeking help for their children struggling with illnesses. One charity can change the world, and can help others to become inspired to also make a difference. Ronald McDonald House was inspired by a milkshake and a girl named Kim who was undergoing treatments for leukemia. The first house was opened in 1974 in Philadelphia, thanks to Dr. Audrey Evans and Philadelphia Eagles player Fred Hill (Kims Father). The Eagles general manager Jim Murray and the McDonalds regional manager, Ed Rensi had a helping hand in making this home become a living reality (Ronald McDonald House Charities). Through profits from the McDonalds milkshakes, the house was opened so that Kims father Fred hill could have a comforting place to stay while his daughter was receiving treatment for Leukemia at a nearby childrens hospital. The house became a rapid expansion for other families to stay while their children were receiving treatment for various conditions. Throughout the years, one persons vision has become a home to many individuals in their time of need. Once a charity uprooted it often sparks ideas for new services and other accommodations. Among some of these new adaptations created by Ronald McDonald House Charities, is something this is one of the two in the entire world, Camp Ronald McDonald [at Eagle Lake](sentence makes little coherent sense). Throughout the course of eight weeks children and adults with developmental disabilities, that have been sexually abused, have Muscular Dystrophy, are deaf, have Downs syndrome, or Autism, and Cerebral Palsy are served (Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake). Disabilities are not limited, so camps need to be accessible for a wide range of disabilities to help give everyone an equal chance to attend. Within this vision there is a mission to break down any barriers that are present, experience activities that any normal individual would get to be involved with, and have a week of no worries at all. A contributing factor for providing an environment specific to particular individuals is understanding their needs and characteristics. The strengths and needs of some children are more easily seen than those of others. A child care workers job is to build on each childs strengths while helping him or her with their needs. The camp is not limited to only children with cancer but also those with other blood diseases. The camp was named for the gang that was made famous in the 1969 film, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, featured with Paul Neman and Robert Redford. The camp was founded through use of profits from the sales of products derived from Paul Newmans own personal recipes. The camp is positioned on three hundred acres and is a sports and recreation center for young people. Since this is a nonprofit organization, the children are supervised by volunteer doctors, nurses, and the chief pediatrician at Yale New Haven Hospital (Rodgers 76). Cancer is a destructive disease that causes many children to conjure up tho ughts of the worst possible outcomes.. An occurrence often sparks an idea for change or to create something new for the greater good of humanity. Charities become charities because of things such as high statistic rates, economical increases, and to provide equality for disabled individuals. Reflecting back on the high statistics of children between the ages of zero and fifteen that are diagnosed with leukemia, or are faced with the challenges of Downs syndrome and cerebral palsy, it is evident that it is of keen importance to have facilities for children to attend that make them feel like they are living the lives just as any other individual in the world would be able to do. Although, individuals are different by looks we are still all humans equally hoping for a prosperous life, those with mental and physical disabilities should not be rejected by society nor should they be thought of as the lesser equal because they act differently than others may. Charities do not use harsh words, or unfair judgment to view individuals in society, but rather honesty and acceptance to provide for those who are not being provided for. It is because of charities like Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the Wall Gang Camp that understand that the disabled make up a large percentage of our population and that they must have an environment where physical and mental barriers are removed, and acceptance is found. Imagine living in a world where everyone is exactly the same, where there are no families, and a personal identity is regarded as a global threat. This is the futuristic society portrayed in Aldous Huxly's Brave New World. To garuntee complete happiness to its denizens, the government raises myriads of people in a single test tube, and then conditions them to conform to their assigned caste, (such as Alpha, Beta, etc.), and to behave in a "safe" manner. This method of upbringing creates a society full of clones completely lacking any personality, conditioned to love only three things: Henry Ford, their idol; soma, a wonder drug: and physical pleasure. Huxly tells the story through the eyes of several characters, but mainly through those of a deformed Alpha, Bernard Marx, and a young "savage" named John. The story's conflict begins when Bernard Marx becomes romantically involved with Lenina Crowne, and they travel together to a Savage Reservation. While at the reservation, which is one of the few remaining places in the world where people live with out modern conveniences such as soma, birth control, or helicopters, Lenina and Bernard meet a young boy, John, and his mother Linda. Linda, who was originally from the civilized world, had become pregnant several years before and had been lost on a trip she had made to the reservation. Because it was so shameful that she was pregnant, she was forced to stay. Both savages are brought to the new world, and John becomes a celebrity. At this point in the novel, Huxly uses Bernard as a paradigm to show how fickle a person can be, and how the need for acceptance can override a persons morals. Bernard, who had always been outcast, seizes the chance to take responsibility for John, therefore also becoming popular. All of Bernard's criticism of his society quickly vanished when he gained the respect he had dreamed of his entire life. He became to good for his old friends, and believed he was invincible. But, just like Caesar who thought he was "as constant as the northern Star", Bernard's overconfidence led to his downfall. On the other hand, John, who was excited about the brave new world he had entered, becomes disillusioned, and becomes torn when his values and morals clash with those of the new society. Finally, after a mad rampage, he isolates himself in ... ...se, making a society where people have no attachments to anything or anyone, and everything is replaceable. Huxly provide a strong warning against the misuse of science. Through factories that mass produce children, drugs that take the place of true passion, and conditioning that takes the place of family, technology becomes a dehumanizing force. When Huxly first wrote his novel, he projected that a society similar to the one he had described could come about in about six hundred years. Later in his life, he stated that he had overestimated, and that the horrors of Brave New World could come about in the next century. His drastically changed outlook is not so hard to believe when one looks at our modern society. For example, marriage has changed from a life long commitment, to a relationship that in about fifty percent of couples only lasts for a couple of years. Cloning, although not yet in humans, and far from being perfected, is no longer only in science fiction novels, but in our daily lives. There are many other similarities between our society and that of Brave New World, making it all the easier to accept Huxly's outlook on society's future.

You often hear the word environment, but do you stop to think what it really means, what it contains, and how it affects you? The actual definition of environment is the circumstances, objects, or conditions by which one is surrounded (Merriam-Webster dictionary). Your environment greatly impacts the way you are as a human being. Each and every one of your life experiences are influenced by your environment. Your environment determines if or how your potential to develop is reached. Family, friends, home, school, etc. re all components of your environment. By reading further, you will witness these factors that affect your personal growth and development being explored and discussed. FAMILY When children are very young, and spend most of their time with their parents and/or other family members family is usually the major human influence in their life. This is also true about most children when they get older and grow into adulthood. Families provide a nurturing environment in which security, protection, satisfaction, and love are given. Physical needs for food and clothing are met. In this environment family members grow to maturity. In a proper family environment a child has positive surroundings, including positive people. when a child is cared for and loved he/she gets ample nutrition, clothing, shelter, rest, interaction/attention, etc. these things help the child grow physically and mentally. the child is surrounded by positivity, therefore the chances of the child maturing into a positive individual are very high. however if a child is raised in an improper family environment, most likely, the opposite will result. e/she will be deprived of the opportunity to fully develop, and has a higher risk of harboring negativity as they age. In the early years families need to meet a baby’s physical, emotional, and social needs because they are helpless on their own. Eventually, babies discover they are independent and can do things on their own. Family members can provide an environment that promotes the growth of independence and set tasks for children to do by themselves. Families can also help children learn how to fit into their surroundings. An environment with well defined limits helps young children learn to control their own behavior. A household with reasonable rules and regulations set by parents/guardians gives children a sense of how to be well behaved. The teen years are years of self discovery for teens as they start to depend less on their families. One way your family can encourage your growth as a teen is to allow opportunities to make personal decisions. Taking more responsibilities helps you develop the capability to make your own choices. An encouraging and supportive family environment can help you develop healthy relationships with others. This is because you get knowledge about the way relationships work from your family. It is very hard to develop relationships with any other person if a strong family relationship isn’t established. Family Structure: The way a family is structured affects the way a child is raised. For example, a child may only live with one parent, a step parent, their grandparents; there are many combinations of a family structure. Changes in family structure can often affect the family’s ability to provide a stimulating environment and can either be negative or positive. There may be more or less money, time/family members to listen, share, encourage, and guide each child. Siblings: Brothers and sisters can be a source of fun, conflict, or competition. They can also learn from each other. Siblings usually continue to interact with each other into adulthood, which can be beneficial to the both of them. Siblings learn to share and cooperate when they interact which, when learned young, instills these habits so that children can share and cooperate with others throughout life. CULTURAL HERITAGE Your family’s guidelines and beliefs are part of your heritage. The holidays, food, and religion your are accustomed to are part of your culture. Families pass on their customs and traditions to their children. Your culture and heritage usually help determine many decisions you make in your future. For example, most of the friends you make and keep will probably be of the same heritage and culture you come from. The places you go, like church, celebrations, festivities, etc. are determined by your cultural background. Multicultural influences can altar your relationships with family members as well as impact your values and expectations for your future family. Odds are, if or when you have children you will transfer those same beliefs and traditions that you are used to to them. SCHOOL A quality school environment provides a setting that encourages students to learn and grow. After school activities can provide chances for students to interact with others in clubs or sports. Class curriculum offers courses that stimulate students’ intellectual growth. Teachers in a quality school environment encourage students by helping them find areas in which they succeed. Teachers also help students find areas in which they need to improve. By doing so, they help students know what decisions to make regarding how to get the most efficient education for them and how they learn best, especially when they get to college. PEERS By interacting with your peers you can make judgements about how you look because you begin to compare your appearance to theirs; how important you are because you compare how much attention they get with how much you get, and how successful you are. The friends you choose now are likely the kind of friends you will make later in life. Your peers can also influence the plans you make for your future. Good friends usually like to stick together so you’ll often make similar choices about things like school, clothing, activities, mutual friends, etc. Sometimes your peers make choices that you feel are not right for you. This gives you a sense of things you’re comfortable with and things you’re uncomfortable with. COMMUNITY There are many different types of communities. Each one has its own influence on the people that live there. The community environment is influenced by resources available. Industries or business provide job opportunities for community members. A low crime rate and pleasant surroundings make residents feel secure and protected. And shopping facilities offer convenience. Also, factors like air quality and cleanliness in general affect the health of community members. Growing up in a community with many resources tends to make a good impression on those that reside there. When that is done, people stay in that community. This prevents constant moving and drifting, so the chance to remain established and comfortable is given. TECHNOLOGY Technology is used in our lives everyday. New technologies influence the items you buy, clothes you wear, and things like that. The biggest way new technology has impacted our society is the fact that it has resulted in a higher standard of living. For example, more goods are cheaper, labor-intense jobs are less popular, and health care has improved. Technology can be a negative thing too. Dependence on technology can cause people to judge their quality of life by material things and money, which can lead to the neglect of the growth of personal relationships. Technology can also cause people to take their intelligence for granted. Technological thinking patterns can cause people to think of quick fixes to real life issues that take thorough thinking. This doesn’t usually work out well. MEDIA Television, radio, movies, videos, newspapers, magazines, etc. are sources of entertainment and information that affect peoples lives. Media can influence people’s thoughts, viewpoints and decisions without them even being completely aware of the affect it has on them. For some members of society, the people on television are models for them to imitate. They also provide an image for developing friendships and relationships. These images are often false and unrealistic, which causes people to have superficial personalities and appearances. The effects of advertising include how yous spend your money, and choices you make about the items you purchase. Ads stimulate sales and goods of services from different companies so that they can make a profit and establish a good company name. Advertisers are well aware of what appeals to certain people because they do extensive research on these things. Being aware of how advertisements influence you in your daily life can help you make wiser choices.
